FRAGMENTADO (2005)

Ten years ago this week I created a contemporary ballet for the students at Princeton University Program in Theater and Dance. I chose the volatile music of John Zorn to create the ballet- there were no counts, as I used the impulses in the music to ride its idiosyncrasies, and to find the humorous passages as well as the softer variations. The piece is based on traditional ballet technique (and more) inspired by Balanchine, mixed with Twyla, and a bit of Byrd, and lots of "Reginisms". The fab lighting design is by Mark T. Simpson; costumes by Ingrid Mauer.
